About UAMS Recognition Societies
For some, supporting the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is a way to express appreciation for an education that laid the foundation for a successful professional life. Others partner with UAMS in this way to enable the naming of a facility or program, or to honor someone who has made a lasting difference through a scholarship or endowment. Finally, some make annual leadership gifts as part of an overall financial or philanthropic plan, or for other worthy purposes.
Society of the Double Helix
Donors who have given cumulative gifts of $100,000 or more to UAMS throughout their lifetime are inducted into the Society of the Double Helix. The double helix sculpture was chosen as a symbolic expression of appreciation to all who have been a part of the progress and development of UAMS. Upon induction, the members’ names are added to the Society of the Double Helix donor wall in the Harry P. Ward Tower.

The 1879 Society recognizes all donors who have named UAMS as a beneficiary through a planned giving instrument, such as a trust, will, annuity, life insurance policy, or other forms of bequests. These types of charitable planned gifts assure that the donor’s legacy lasts beyond his or her lifetime while securing the long-term financial health of UAMS.
